Soilmentor: How to add a new field / biodiversity site / sample sites
In your Soilmentor account, you will need to create 'fields' corresponding to the fields on your farm that you are going to monitor. For each field you add, you will then add a GPS mapped 'soil sample' site to record your soil health results, and monitor progress in that location over time. You can add as many sample sites in each field as you want, but we recommend starting with one sample to keep things simple!
Creating fields & soil samples using the phone app
You can add your fields and sample sites in the Soilmentor phone app.
To add a field in the phone app, go to 'Fields & Biodiversity',
click the '+' button, enter the name of the field you want to add, and
To add soil sample sites, go to 'Soil Samples',
click the '+' button, select the field you want to add the sample to,
and enter the name of the sample site.
Creating fields & soil samples using the web app
After logging in to Soilmentor on any computer, go to 'Fields' --> 'Add Field' in the top right, and enter the name of the field.
To add samples, go to 'Samples' --> 'Add Sample', and enter the name of the sample.
You can add several samples at once by selecting 'Add in Bulk', and pasting in sample names - ensuring each different sample is separated by a line.
These new samples and fields will then appear on your phone app when you next click 'Sync' on your phone.
Here is an example of a field / sample setup, with three samples added to a field:
Field name: 'Top Field'
Sample site names:
Top field - Margin
Top field - Middle
Top field - W walk
These refer to two set sample locations that are mapped with GPS (Middle & Margin).
You can add a ‘W walk’ sample to be used for test results that aren’t location specific - i.e the plate meter test, where you might take multiple readings in a 'W Walk'.
